Perth Adventures: Dice, Drama, and Our First WA Oz Comic-Con!

Perth Adventures: Dice, Drama, and Our First WA Oz Comic-Con!

Hello Adventurers!

We're back and buzzing after an eventful trip across the country! This past weekend, 6th and 7th April 2025, Dungeon Labs had the exciting opportunity to exhibit for the very first time at Oz Comic-Con Perth. We've been eager to connect with the passionate WA tabletop community for ages, and we were thrilled to finally make the journey. While the weekend was ultimately fantastic for meeting so many of you, it definitely threw us a few curveballs and became quite the adventure!

Plot Twist: The Case of the Shipment not going to arrive on time

Like any good adventure, our quest to Perth started with an unexpected challenge. Shortly before we were due to fly out, we received the unfortunate news from our courier that our main cargo shipment – packed with our treasured collections of miniatures, sourcebooks, paints, and accessories – would not be arriving in Perth in time for the convention.

Panic? Yes!! But then, problem-solving mode kicked in. We were determined to still make it and meet everyone. Our solution? A rapid pivot! We made the call to transform our planned booth into a dedicated Dice & Trinket Haven. This involved a frantic scramble to pack two large check-in suitcases absolutely to the brim with everything we could physically bring on the plane: hundreds of gorgeous dice sets, our unique dice jewelry, and the ever-popular dice fidget spinners. If we couldn't bring the whole Lab, we'd bring the sparkle!

Further Adventures in Travel Planning...

Adding another layer to our pre-con quest, in the midst of sorting out the stock situation, we realised we'd neglected to book our flights well in advance. Let's just say we learned a valuable (and expensive!) lesson about last-minute airfares, especially when flying coast-to-coast!

Perth, We Made It! (Focusing on the Fun)

Despite the shipping drama, the packed-to-bursting suitcases, and the slightly lighter wallets, arriving at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre for Oz Comic-Con was fantastic. The energy was great, the cosplay creativity was flowing, and the absolute best part was finally getting to chat with the Perth tabletop community!

Our 'Dice & Trinket Haven' booth became an eye-catching corner. Even without our full range, it was wonderful to talk campaigns, hear your gaming stories, help you find the perfect click-clacks, and see the enthusiasm for the dice, jewelry, and fidgets we did have. Your excitement and passion were infectious, and connecting with you all was precisely why we made the trip.

Confession Time: Where Are the Photos?!

Now, observant readers might notice a distinct lack of photos accompanying this post. Well, here’s where we admit to another fumble! Between managing the adjusted stock, running the booth, and genuinely getting lost in conversation with so many wonderful people, we completely forgot to take pictures! No snaps of the booth, the awesome attendees, the cool cosplay... nothing! Consider this our official apology – we were apparently too immersed in the chaotic fun of our first Perth con!

A Huge, Heartfelt Thank You, Perth!

This brings us to the most crucial point: A massive, heartfelt THANK YOU to every single person who stopped by the Dungeon Labs booth at Oz Comic-Con Perth. Seriously, thank you for:

  • Giving us such a warm and friendly Western Australian welcome!
  • Your incredible understanding and positivity about our unexpected, dice-focused inventory.
  • Your amazing enthusiasm for the dice, jewelry, and fidgets – we loved seeing them find new homes!
  • Sharing your passion for TTRPGs and tabletop gaming with us.
  • Making our slightly unconventional and challenging first Perth convention experience so genuinely worth it.

Your support turned potential setbacks into a fantastic community connection. We also send our thanks to the Oz Comic-Con organisers and crew for organising this event!

Lessons from the West & Future Quests

What did we learn? Plan shipping logistics with military precision (especially across continents!), book travel early, and perhaps a reminder to take photos next time!

While our first Oz Comic-Con Perth experience wasn't exactly what we initially planned, it was incredibly valuable. Meeting the Perth community was the highlight, and we're absolutely keen to return – hopefully with smoother travels, our full range of Dungeon Labs goodies, and maybe even some photographic evidence!

Share Your Experience!
